how to convert webp to jpg
Drop your WEBP file
Drag your WEBP file into the drop zone above, or click the box to pick a file from your computer or phone. The browser reads the file directly — nothing uploads.
Click Convert
The page runs Canvas API on your device to decode the WebP and encode it as JPEG. Most conversions finish in a few seconds; large or codec-heavy files (RAW, video) can take longer.
Download the JPG file
When the conversion finishes, the JPG file is ready to download. Save it anywhere on your device.
FAQ
common questions
Will my WEBP file lose quality when converted to JPG?
Yes, slightly. Both WebP and JPEG are lossy — the converter has to decode the original and re-encode into JPG, which adds a second generation of compression artefacts on top of whatever was already in the WEBP. The difference is usually invisible at normal viewing sizes for one round-trip, but the file you end up with is materially noisier than a single direct encode.
What happens to transparency when converting WEBP to JPG?
WebP can carry transparency; JPEG can't. The transparent regions in your WEBP are filled with a background colour (white by default) when the converter rasterises into JPG.
Does JPG keep the EXIF / camera metadata from my WEBP?
Both WebP and JPEG can carry EXIF metadata (camera, lens, date, GPS), so the converter preserves it. If your source WEBP was tagged with GPS coordinates from a phone, those coordinates travel with the file into the JPG.
Will an animated WEBP convert to an animated JPG?
Only the first frame. JPEG is a still-image format, so an animated WEBP converts to a single image showing frame 1. The rest of the animation is discarded.
Will the JPG file be smaller or larger than my WEBP?
Roughly the same. The two formats have comparable compression characteristics, so file size doesn't change dramatically — exact ratio depends on content and encoder settings.
When does it make sense to convert WEBP to JPG?
Common reasons: WEBP is some older desktop apps still don't open WebP natively, while JPG is small files for photographs. Converting also matters when the app, device, or platform you're sharing with prefers JPEG — every image viewer, browser, OS file preview, and editing tool ships with JPEG support.
Where will my JPG file open after conversion?
Every image viewer, browser, OS file preview, and editing tool ships with JPEG support. JPEG is widely enough supported that you can hand the output file to most modern apps and expect them to render it.
Does this site upload my WEBP files anywhere?
No. The whole conversion runs in your browser using Canvas API. The file you drop in never leaves your device — we don't see it, and we couldn't even if we wanted to.
Is there a file size limit for WEBP to JPG?
There's no hard cap — limit is your device's memory. Several hundred megabytes works fine on a typical laptop. Phones and low-RAM machines may struggle with very large files.
Does WEBP to JPG work offline?
Once this page has loaded, yes. The converter library lives in your browser and runs without any further network calls. Reloading the page does still need connectivity.
